Cook County has an additional 16 miles of Des Plaines River Trail consisting of a northern and southern section which are currently not connected. Construction of a connection is under way and is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2008.

The Lake County portion of the Des Plaines River Trail is a 31 mile limestone screening trail which runs from Wadsworth near the
Wisconsin border south to the Cook County Line.
